Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 3-5 year olds with Autism and other special needs, including Speech and Language Impairment. My students' disabilities are moderate to severe and their learning is supported by the use of visuals, organization, and minimalism. This is a Title I school; 50% of my students are also English Language Learners and 100% of them are also eligible for free/reduced price lunch, meaning they come from low-income homes.
My students are kind, curious, and bright children who love to learn.
My Project
My students need hands-on literacy materials that they can actively manipulate. My students will use the ABC, shape and color puzzles during our morning free play and again during small group centers. They will also use pegs and puzzles to practice fine motor skills and motor planning. Posters, flashcards and weather wheels will be used during circle time and small center activities.
Chewy tubes help calm teething children and also help them focus.
My students tend to put most objects in their mouths and chewy tubes are a clean, safe and developmentally appropriate alternative.
The fan will keep us cool and regulated in order to be able to focus, learn and be comfortable.
