Help me give my students the ramps and balls exploration set and storage box, the kids around the world, Asian family and community people, and the block play home builder to enhance our block play area.
At our school, we firmly believe that all children, no matter what their cognitive levels are, have the capacity to learn. Through this belief, we as teachers are constantly finding creative and new learning approaches to help our students be successful.
This year, I am working with twenty amazing 4-year-old preschool students attending our full day preschool program.
These students are either attending preschool for the very first time or transitioning from half-day to full day. The students come from various cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds which lends itself to a diverse classroom environment. The students also have different learning preferences whether it is visual, kinesthetic, or auditory.
Regardless of their backgrounds and their learning preference, all of the students are eager to learn and explore their world around them. My goal is to give them as many tools as possible to become active and engaged learners. The past year has been fantastic! My students have been so excited receiving items that we have had funded through DonorsChoose.org. I love seeing the excitement on their faces as they explore new materials that help enhance our learning program. We are always grateful when a project gets funded!
My Project
In our classroom we have a block play area that the students love to work in. Block play helps to enhance their engineering and math skills as well as their social/emotional skills. The students learn to balance items, copy simple patterns to construct buildings, or make their own design. They learn to share and cooperate with each other in order to create a really fantastic structure.
Supplementing the block play area with the addition of people and building materials will further encourage the students to work on their math and engineering skills.
They are so proud when they have worked together to construct a building. Adding more the Asian family (we already have some families) will also encourage to support the multicultural diversity that is within our classroom. The community helpers will encourage pretend play and perhaps exploration of different vocations. The ramps and ball set will really extend their knowledge of building and motion. All of these materials will further encourage the students to use their imagination while learning!
