My students need Avery mini binders for communication books and Guidecraft Better Builders STEM educational building toy to increase their social skills.
For many of my students, this is their first experience in school. I want them to love coming to school and to love learning. My students have severe special needs and require specialized instruction. The principles of applied behavior analysis are incorporated throughout the day.
All students can learn and the environment they learn in should be comfortable, safe, welcoming, and supportive.
My students spend part of their day included with typically developing peers. Many of my students are learning how to communicate and be social with their peers. Using the principles of applied behavior analysis, they learn the skills that they will need to be able to learn within a group setting.
My Project
The Avery mini binders will be used to create individual student communication books where students will access pictures of things they want and will exchange them in order to request those items.
Students will be explicitly taught how to play with the Melissa and Doug play food sets and will then work on generalizing these play skills in the integrated preschool classroom.
The magnetic rod and ball construction set and the Pop the Pig game will give my students the practice to request from peers, comment during play, and taking turns with peers.
My students' time spent in the integrated classrooms will be enhanced by increasing their dramatic play skills.
