Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a preschool classroom in a Chicago public school. It is comprised of two half-day blended classrooms. Each classroom has a mix of both three and four year-olds. There are 20 students in each class that include both regular and special education students. My students are eager to learn and play. Our school is limited in funding for materials. We are considered low-income with 93% of our students receiving free lunches. Ten percent of our students are considered English language learners.
My Project
My preschool classroom is in need of some basic materials that will allow my students to learn through art materials.
These basic art materials will assist my preschooler to learn about shapes, colors, letters, numbers, their names, and create their own art masterpeices!
Every day my students trace lines, shapes, letters, and their names on laminated pages. My 38 preschoolers utilize dry erase markers to complete this task. We go through a lot of dry erase markers and they need to be replenished often. Many of the art activities presented in preschool are student-directed. They love exploring and creating with a variety of materials. The children create buildings or structures with craft sticks. Of course, they need glue sticks for the sticks to stick to the construction paper. The paint daubers, pom poms, wiggle eyes, and age-appropriate scissors will assist and help create some wonderful art projects! I can't wait to share the pictures with you!
