Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in an urban district, where the vast majority of families live below the poverty line. Many of our students do not have the opportunity to ride bikes at home or play outside. We teach 3-5 year old students with severe disabilities, primarily those with autism spectrum disorder. Our students rely on structured sensory based activities to help them maintain focus and appropriate behavior.
Our students love to play outside, but have a limited variety of activities and materials, given our current playground and budget constraints.
Tricycles and safety equipment will allow for a wider variety of activities!
My Project
These tricycles will provide our students with autism with much needed gross motor and sensory integration opportunities during recess. Currently, we have a low play structure and a pavement track, but nothing to ride on the track. Our children with special needs will greatly benefit from the gross motor skills these tricycles will help develop, and will have fun in the process!
Students with autism greatly benefit from sensory integration opportunities, which the tricycles would provide in an age appropriate, fun manner!
The helmets will keep our students safe,
and the shed will provide a weatherproof home for the equipment. We thank you for considering contributing to making recess a more meaningful time for our students!
