My students are from a small close-knit community in the rural Appalachian heart of Jackson County, Ky where over 30% of families are considered below the poverty level.
A large number of my students are part of the Head Start program which provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.
Our program consists of children ages 3 to 5 years old. Children that do not qualify for the Head Start portion of Preschool may enroll starting at age 3 if they have some type of disability such as cognitive, motor, social-emotional, self- help skills, or a speech impairment.
My Project
Puzzles are a great resource for preschool students to enhance math, science, literacy, social and fine motor skills! Puzzles can be used throughout the preschool setting to help achieve individual goals and objectives. Puzzles can be used in all learning centers throughout the classroom. Students who come in shy often one of the first things they like to play with are magnetic puzzles which allow them to participate in activities within the classroom and eases social discomfort.
Puzzles are an educational learning tool for toddlers and young children as they provide many learning benefits and opportunities such as counting, letter or sound recognition.
