Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high-poverty area of Los Angeles. All of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch throughout the school year. Many of the families in this community have two-income households and, yet are still barely making ends meet.
Having a tough family life where priorities revolve around needs and not wants can make it tough for my little Kinder babies to learn and grow at home.
Being safe and having food on the table is what's the most important. There isn't much time or money to take the kids out to learn and explore.
That's where I come in. One of my primary goals throughout the year is to involve parents in learning as well. I want to "teach a man to fish." This enables parents to feel comfortable providing support in their homes and give them the tools they need. Providing opportunities at school that they can then take into their homes is crucial. Parents inherently want to help their children academically but don't always know how. Equipping them with knowledge and tools is key. I hope you support us.
My Project
Preschool kids' main job is to play. Construction paper and scissors are BORING! Let's spice up our projects with a CriCut Maker. We create several projects to culminate our learning. When learning about any subject area, whether it the alphabet, numbers, science, or social studies, we create something to show what we have learned. In public schools, we are provided the bare minimum. Construction paper, scissors, and glue can limit creativity. With a Cricut, we can create almost anything that our imagination can muster. The little ones can create 3D representations, as well. Since their fine motor skills are limited at this age, the CriCut will enable the students to create without limitations.
