Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a special education class in an inner city school in the largest city in Indiana. There is a high minority population, as well as a very high level of poverty among the students at the school where I teach. All of my students are have been identified as developmentally delayed, they range in age from three to five. Many have delays in the area of speech and language; some are nonverbal.
My class is located in a public school which has students from Pre-K to seventh grade.
There are many students in this school that have special learning needs.
My Project
Young students love to create with a variety of media especially finger paint and glitter. The materials that I have selected will encourage students to enhance their artistic creations.
Preschoolers love to try out a variety of materials when creating art!
I love to watch students mix several colors of finger paints to create new shades and different colors. For those student who do not like to get their fingers messy, I provide them with craft sticks, google eyes, pompoms, glue, glitter, stamp pads and other materials so that they can make their own unique creations. Then I watch and listen as they proudly share their art with their classmates!
