This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Look, Mrs. T, I did it!," shouts an energetic 4-year-old as he begins to sound out a simple CVC word. Four-year-old students are vivacious vessels ready for learning! As they stroll through the doors waiting for their vessel to be filled, they exude positivity. Upon entering, they are filled with energy and love for learning. These little friends are so eager to learn and have fun, it is contagious to all who walk through the classroom door. Visitors beware, you may want to stay for the rest of the day!

More than half of my students come from low income, single-parent homes, and are English language learners, labeling them high risk due to factors out of their control.

Our school is in the heart of Chicago's north-side, serving a diverse population from preschool-3rd grade in a Chicago Public School Early Childhood Center. As a result, students come from a variety of backgrounds, have diverse needs, and speak more than 20 different languages. Being in an early childhood center embraces the importance of building a good foundation for young learners, our future leaders.

My Project

My students need props and materials to use for our "Cameras" study. Preschoolers are hands-on learners and love to explore, thus giving them materials such as lights, a stand, letter boards and books will enhance their learning giving them real objects to use while engaging in play. Ever partaken in a photo shoot? What are some items you remember? Lights play a big part and a stand with choices of props to use as well as words for a letter board will aid in developing literacy during play.

"Lights, Camera, Action," will be what my little learners will shout as they take on roles of model, cameraman/woman, mom, dad, etc.

Not only will they explore, but they will engage with their peers increasing language, take on roles where they learn to share, and much more!
