Everyday my students come to school with positive attitudes and the brightest smiles we could ask for! They are so excited to be in school and curious to know what sort of activity we will be doing in the classroom each day. I truly look forward to helping them learn and preparing them for kindergarten.
The area our school is located in, is a low income neighborhood, our students all receive a free lunch and snack everyday.
We are always working with our families to ensure our students are getting the necessities in order for them to be successful. No matter what, my students come to school ready to learn their letters, play, read stories, count, and sing songs. It is truly inspiring to watch my students grow and learn throughout the year.
The other day we were sitting in our classroom during quiet time and I noticed that every student had a book. Many of them looked at the pictures and were describing what they thought the story was about, some were retelling the story based on their memory and some were even sounding out words and reading. I realized in that moment, that my preschoolers have really grown to love and appreciate books.
Unfortunately for many of my students, school may be the only place they have access to books and other materials.
We are constantly reading in our room, asking questions and incorporating new ideas from the text to our classroom. We would really love to update our library. Not only would they love new books but we have been discussing how we organize our books with new bins and label. We have even discussed how we classify them by their topic. I am truly amazed by this group and and their love to read!
