My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I want them to know I believe in them and they can learn and succeed.
My classroom consists of special needs students with disabilities, high risk, and typically developing children in an inclusive classroom setting.
They range in age from three to five years old and participate in North Carolina's pre-kindergarten program that seeks to prepare them for success when they enter kindergarten. The school we are a part of is in a high poverty rural area. It is a Title I school in North Carolina where over 90 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my pre-k students receive backpack food on the weekend and face many hardships, but my students are eager to learn and do their best.
My Project
In preschool, we love participating in and learning through hands on activities. My children enjoy independently working with art materials that expand their learning and creativity. However, school budgets for replacing art materials are slim. Children should not be limited in their self expression due to funding.
Preschool age children learn best through exploration and hands on activities.
My students would greatly appreciate new materials such as paper, glue, and sculpting materials to continue to paint, draw, create collages, and 3D art and to learn many new skills though the process of making art. These items help students with their fine motor skills, creative, and problem-solving abilities. We also use these materials to help teach other early learning skills in pre-reading, writing, math, and science, and they help in developing social skills by sharing materials and talking with one another about their art.
