Preschool Cooking Cart for Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Confidence!
Help me give my students the opportunity to experience hands-on learning in multiple disciplines through cooking. A mobile cooking cart with appliances and kitchen utensils will allow our children to connect to curriculum and develop new skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At our school, our students are eager to learn by doing. We use an arts-infused curriculum to encourage self-exploration, build self-confidence, and increase social and emotional development.
I enjoy working with my students because they are innovators and collaborators that thrive on interactive learning experiences.
They are imaginative and curious about the world around them.
Eighty-seven percent of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch, and more than one-third of our families reside in subsidized housing. We partner with our students and families to provide a high quality early childhood education and set them up for success.
My Project
Cooking in the classroom provides important lessons in math, literacy, science, art, and more. Students will have the opportunity to follow recipes, cook food, and connect these experiences to other classroom lessons. For example, measuring ingredients will allow our students to practice math and reading. Basic cooking techniques also provide opportunity for our young learners to continue developing fine and gross motor skills. Additionally, children will increase social and communication skills and will benefit from working in a group setting.
Culinary experiences in the classroom also expose children to new foods and cultures, while providing confidence and achievement in creating their very own dishes.
Additionally, we will teach our students about nutritious foods to promote healthy choices. This creative curriculum will ultimately nourish my students’ minds and bodies.
