My Students
I teach at a Head Start program in South Chicago. A majority of our students come from low income families. Many of my students are also dual language learners. Most of my students join my classroom at just three years of age and stay with us until they transition to kindergarten.
Having the opportunity to watch my students grow, develop new skills, and learn over a two year period is extremely rewarding.
I get to see them come in as shy three's and walk out as confident five's. Although many of my students come from low income families, their curiosity, their energy, and their eagerness to come to school to socialize and learn are inspiring!
My Project
In our classroom, art is child-led and completely open-ended. Collage materials go quickly in a classroom full of preschoolers. To ensure that our preschoolers can bring their creations to life, we need to restock our art area!
With the materials listed, we’ll be able to keep our art collage area well stocked for the rest of the school year and through the summer (we’re a year-round program).
Art is a favorite area of our classroom, so when the children see the new materials out, they’ll love to jump right in and begin to create. I can’t wait to see what amazing works of art come from this!
The peel and stick cubes will allow my preschoolers to create dimensional art that can be displayed on our shelves. The Kwik Stix Solid Tempera Paint is going to be a great addition to our painting area. The children can use these and can immediately put their art in their take home cubby instead of having to wait until the following day for it to dry. The tape! They always ask for tape for their work, and we currently only have bland masking tape. They are going to love the various colors of tape in the tape center! The play dough tools will be used to extend literacy learning in fine motor work and development.
