My students need markers, pens, calculators, graph paper, and pencils so they can be prepared in class. My students need whiteboards and markers so we can check for understanding.
I teach a study skills class which prepares students to be successful in the rest of their classes. I work with students to improve their academic potential by being organized and teaching them skills they need to be successful. These skills range from Cornell note taking strategies to math work.
I am a teacher in a program, which is a school within a school that works with at-risk youth.
Although my students are very bright, engaging, and energetic, the majority of my students have a history of under performing in school. Our goal is to turn our students educational and emotional lives around. I hope to change our students' high school experience from failing grades and poor attendance into successful students with aspirations of college.
My Project
Our school prohibits students from having to buy anything with respect to their education. The school is expected to provide all learning materials to our students free of charge. Due to our budget constraints, it is almost impossible to ensure all of our students have all the materials needed to be successful in a classroom. Binders, paper, pens, pencils and other school necessities are often missing from our student's backpacks (if they have one). These materials will allow our students to become fully prepared so when they enter a classroom they could focus on the curriculum that is being taught, not getting a piece of paper or pencil from a neighbor.
These donations with improve my classroom by allowing me to provide materials to students.
In addition, when we go over math work they will have graph paper and calculators to do the work with. Finally, our students will have a chance to be successful in their core classes.
