Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from inner-city with a high transient rate. The school has a rate over 80% of students receiving free and reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are non-native English speakers who are working on a traditional high school diploma.
My students are in the Medical Stem program learning both BioMedicine as well as Veterinary Technology.
We are building the Vet Tech program this year and will be continuing to create a program for aspiring Veterinarians and Assistants. My beginning 6th grade students have not been in a traditional school since 4th grade. My students need materials for hands on activities to learn techniques.
My Project
Students will use technology, and microscopes to better understand genetic changes, parasites and Laboratory testing to help prepare them for a future in medicine and become more college ready. College and career standards require students to collect information and use short and sustained activities to gather evidence to support a claim.
Allowing students to use stereomicroscopes to see meiosis in action will help them understand growth as well as the how behind Cancer.
By using this visual, the students will be able to explain the evidence and reasoning behind a claim.
