My class is full of amazing students that have special needs. It is an adult transition class for students age 18-21. These students work at different tasks around campus and in the community. They focus on learning life, social, and work skills. It is my hope that each student will learn to live as independently as possible, working at a job they enjoy and can be proud of. My students have varying disabilities. Even though they may have to work harder at tasks than others, they keep a positive attitude and show perseverance when trying new things.
My Project
My students range in age from 18-22. Each day we work on life, work and social skills. Two areas that we focus on are money and environmental print (street signs, store and brand logos). The cash register I am requesting will allow the students to practice paying for items and speaking to cashiers. It will also give them practice counting back change. The "fake" money is the most realistic I could find. Money can be a confusing area and it is important for the students to practice with money that looks like the real thing. The last item I am requesting is a pack of large print community signs. The students will practice recognizing what each sign means.
These items will allow my students to be prepared as they finish school and begin to work and live as independently as possible.
