My students need nonfiction, authentic pieces of print such as TIME for Kids to connect learning to the real world. My students also need solving journals to promote concrete skill attainment and influence independent thinking.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most students I encounter throughout the day fall fairly low in the socioeconomic status and have encountered childhood trauma. Between 80%-90% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students receive backpack food for the weekend. We also have a high LEP (Language-English Proficient) count.
No matter their past or ongoing home situation, when they walk through the doors of our campus we have an unyielding commitment to love and inspire them at every opportunity to ensure they achieve their greatest potential.
My students know they're cherished and are important to our future - and they believe the same of their peers.
My Project
Having TIME for Kids for my students will allow them to see education and its importance outside of school walls. This nonfiction subscription will promote understanding of author's purpose and reveal the integrated connections between science, math, reading and writing and their importance in everyday life.
Many students at my campus have a lack of exposure to real world concepts due to socioeconomic status.
In addition, having access to problem solving journals will give them a concrete tool to document their thinking patterns and mathematical skills acquired. The journals will promote independent learning, academic language skills, and deepen their comprehension.
