Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 7th and 8th grade AVID students as well as 8th grade Language Arts. Many of our students come from economically disadvantaged households and attending a college or pursuing a post high school education is a only a dream.
Our coastal community was affected by the mandatory evacuation of Hurricane Harvey.
Our students missed the structure, routine, and safety of attending school during the evacuation. They were excited to return to campus and share their evacuation "adventure". We were all ready to return back to school and one another.
My Project
Our Junior High AVID students focus on study skills, the academic foundation, and college and career preparation. We will use the Dell Chromebooks to access career opportunities, two and four year colleges, as well as career preparation programs.
Many of our students come from homes where post high school study is only a dream.
The process of applying and funding secondary education is something that can intimidate parents. Students will learn to research careers, campuses, and the process of applying for financial aid. We will give our students the confidence, skills, and knowledge to pursue learning beyond high school graduation.
