Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help my calculus students learn about math limits with limited resources! Having just a few textbooks for 18 people is hard. Besides wasting materials on countless copies, the students also do not benefit from having the text as a reference, and cannot look up a graph if they need one.
These supremely resilient students have made it through 3 years of high school at the top of their class, but, unfortunately, have only nine calculus books and no graphing calculators to share among 18 students and myself.
Our school is a small charter school in a high-need area of Northern California. Many of these students would be the first in their family to enter college. The mission at our high school is to prepare the students to thrive at the college level, so they can gain the intellectual, experiential, and social capital needed to come back to their community and truly make a difference. This is not only an investment in the lives of these 18 students from this year as senior class, but also the juniors who will need to take calculus next year and the sophomores who will follow in their footsteps.
My Project
When students are truly excited about math, and have the resources to expand their knowledge, they will be successful. If our project is funded, the hours I would spend making copies will be used to prepare challenging, inspiring curriculum which will directly benefit the students. In addition, students will have another resource, besides myself, which they can access when they need help with concepts and a new tool with which to analyze and compare functions.

By funding this project, you have the opportunity to empower the youth of California.
When students are able to understand calculus, options which did not exist before are suddenly open doors to a brighter future. Students will have the intellectual capital to thrive in a college setting, build on their knowledge, and gain the skills and experience needed to truly move toward change in our neighborhood. Thank you for your support!
