My class is filled with fun-loving and energetic kiddos. My students come from many parts of the world! I have students from Brazil to Ethiopia.
I teach 2nd grade SEI (Sheltered English Immersion).
The only opportunity most of my students have to access technology like tablets and computers is at school. One day, they will need to compete for scholarships, colleges, and employment with peers who have had exposure to the latest technology since they were very little.
In my classroom, students will use technology every day. This project will give me the chance to build a 21st Century classroom one item at a time so that I may provide these opportunities to my students every single day!
My Project
Building strong literacy skills is an important foundation for the success of English Language Learners. My goal is to enhance my students English language proficiency and academic language through the use of technology. The Kindle will help my students improve their reading level and literacy skills through vocabulary building and language-infused, content-rich activities. For example, students will use a website called Reading A-Z, which allows students to read on their personal reading level and increase their reading fluency and comprehension.
The tablets will also be used during small-group reading instruction. It will be incorporated into our daily reading intervention to work on building skills sets such as vocabulary, print concepts, phonemic awareness, fluency, and reading comprehension. My goal is to bring all my struggling readers to grade level expectations.
Your generous donations will allow my students the opportunity to have access to this technological resource day-in and day-out, instead of having to share the limited resources we have at our school.
I know that having these tablets in the classroom will increase their learning capabilities, which will aid in their confidence and increase their overall successes!
