Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an amazing group of bilingual, second grade students that are already preparing themselves to be successful in the competitive, international community! As a Leader in Me school, our classroom focuses on developing habits that make us successful leaders. These skills include the soft skills that promote respect and compassion towards others and towards our community.
In our dual immersion program, science is taught in Spanish.
This provides our English Only students the opportunities to be challenged outside of their native language, while English Learners are given opportunities to feel more successful when helping their English counterparts.
My Project
Providing my students with non-fiction, bilingual books will offer a great depth of information, experience, and knowledge. The colorful photographs, along with the science viewer, will expand their universe and expose them to concepts and ideas they may not otherwise have. By donating these books to our classroom, you will also be helping my students to understand the effect that all those things have on us and our world. The comfortable seating will make the learning experience more comfortable and fun!
In a classroom with project based learning, it can be a bit chaotic with each team creating projects and tackling problems in their own way.
The stackable drawers and magazine holders will be a great way to not only store books, models and tools, but also unfinished projects. This will help give our classroom a more organized, productive and effective learning environment.
By having a classroom Chromebook that students can carry, they will be able to record experiments and projects more easily. The inflatable globe, erupting volcano, and the Earth model will give my students a more hands on approach to learning about landforms. They will really enjoy the 3D flowing sand picture which will allow them to manipulate sand to see how landscapes can be affected by water and other elements.
