Our school is a Title I school in Missouri. About 80% of the students in our building are receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Our community was devastated by an EF5 tornado in 2011 and housing prices have skyrocketed since then, only adding to the number of students living in poverty.
Many of my students come from families who struggle to put a roof over their head and food on the table.
The requested supplies will help ensure my students start the school year prepared, something that should be guaranteed to every student!
My Project
This school year I had 4 students who were able to purchase all of the supplies on the list. Their main focus is being able to feed, clothe and put a roof over their child's head. That leaves teachers to purchase the remaining supplies or seek out donations.
Having these supplies will allow my parents and students to begin the school year knowing they have the what they need to be successful and able to focus on the necessities.
These are some of the supplies that are usually left out when students go to get school supplies for their students. I want my students to be given every opportunity other kids have. New folders, composition notebooks, and spiral notebooks will help me make that happen!
