Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
One of my favorite quotes is, "ÂGive a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Most days my student are ready to work; I'm excited to see them, especially the student that asked about getting a reward for doing their work; this motivates me daily.
This school year I have a new position as the Activity for Daily Living (ADL) teacher.
My school is comprised of sixty students all have been diagnosed with autism. There are ten classes in my school. The ratio comply of 6:1:1 and 8:1:1. My students are very energetic and eager to learn new ideas. They are friendly, warm-hearted and happy. My school is a small public school; we have an awesome principal; she is dedicated to her work, her staffs and the students alike.
My Project
The materials will help my students to become independent and less dependent citizens as they learn to perform some of life simple activities; activities such as: dressing themselves, sorting and folding clothes, making lunches, zipping and unzipping, setting tables, reading menus, making their beds, and doing personal hygiene care. My students will improve their fine motor skills, have better eyes and hands coordination, learn how to share and work with others. More importantly, they will learn to manage and accept more responsibilities as they continue to make progress within the classroom. My students will be better communicators; they will be able to say meaningful comments about their peers, especially after utilizing the
"ÂI Make Good Choices Chart". Despite their disabilities for sure, the materials in this project will not only help them learn in school, but they will benefit at home and through the community.
My goal is to teach my students the necessary skills needed as they learn and apply them to their daily activities with materials donated.
As a former classroom teacher, I have high expectations for all of my students; I encourage them to apply and share everything they have learned and experienced with their peers and family members. This project will make a huge difference in the lives because each student will be able to perform on an individual basis.
