This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Having tools and resources are the key to educational success. In the school that I work for, there are 500 plus students who come from low income families. All of the students receive free or reduced-priced lunch in the school. I am currently a PreK teacher and most of the students that I teach come from low income households and also single parent homes. The demographics of the students are mixed ranging with most being African American.
I love the delight and passion that PreK students have when they experience or learn something new.
The students that I teach are funny, eager, creative and always ready to learn something new. Even though my students come from low income homes, they don't allow their status to define them!
My Project
STEM is on the rise in today's classroom. STEM toys and products make science and math engaging, meaningful and exciting. By purchasing these products, my students will have the opportunity to expand their curiosity and create interesting products. For example, I asked for some PlayStix as one of my items. When we study the book The Three Little Pigs, students can use the sticks to build houses that were pictured in the book.
STEM is a way to challenge students to think critically and also to engage them in the process as well.
