Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our preschool students are low-income with family backgrounds from Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Guatemala. Many students are from single-parent homes, facing many challenges. Our classroom is their first hands-on experience away from home. We are located in an urban community where violence occurs almost always. Families, however, strive to have their children attend school 96% of the time.
Students at this school strive to learn and develop artistic fundamentals and demonstrate the need for physical activities to keep their busy bodies happy and healthy!
Our school serves Pre-K through eighth-grade students, offering many after-school programs in sports and language arts.
My Project
The math ten frames and teddy bear sorting will support young learners with rich math experiences in our small group math center. Providing name clips for students' cots during rest time will also provide better management and save time distributing cots to students in a fast and effective approach.
Families will be able to borrow the teddy bears for sorting from our classroom lending library.
We will begin to introduce additional math problems to our preschoolers. The ten-frame resources will be so beneficial as jumbo visuals to apply the lesson in a small group. Students will be able to practice math addition sentences hands-on.
