My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching 18 lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving, and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
You may be wondering why do these Pre-Kindergarten children need a light table in their classroom? Or maybe you’re wondering “what is a light table and why should I fund such a project?” A light table is a translucent, flat surface, such as a tabletop- with a light source underneath, the light shines up towards the top of the table. Perhaps, you are familiar with the concept of light tables as a drafting tool, but they are also becoming extremely popular among early childhood teachers.
The children can build with translucent blocks and magnetic tiles and even manipulate translucent letters to begin forming simple words.
The children will be able to use the light table for science exploration and discovery and this will most definitely spark their curiosity. Children can also do messy projects like mix colors and draw! The possibilities for playing and learning with a light table are endless! The light table comes with a remote control that allows you to change, dim or flash the colors at the touch of a button. The surface always stays cool to the touch and has plenty of room for building and exploring.
This table can be used to enhance literacy, math, and writing skills in fun and playful ways. Children will be naturally drawn to the gentle glow of this awesome light table and will be mesmerized by the constant change of colors! Thank You so much for reading my proposal!
