This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are four and five year-olds from West Dallas. I’ve been teaching a bilingual PreK classroom for the past two years, and it’s been an exciting and meaningful experience.

Everyday I get to see them singing, dancing, chatting, playing, and learning, most of the time without noticing they are.

It’s a blessing to me to have the opportunity to be the first teacher they have, and to show them what school is about, having fun and learning from them at the same time.

My Project

My students will benefit from getting a Help-Yoursellf Dress up Center because it would be practical for them to have a specific space to dress up for our Pretend and Learn Center. I like how it gives more organization to this center, and to the room.

It would also foster their autonomy, since they can independently grab the costume they want to wear, and know where to put it back when they finish.

The Lakeshore Puppet Theater will be great for our library, so my students can create fantastic new stories using their imagination and expanding their vocabulary. Whenever they go to the library, they get to read books by looking at the pictures and using their imagination, so the puppet theater will help them develop these skills to a larger extent.
