Help me give my students extra Play Doh, ladybug & butterfly habitats, insect finger puppets, life cycle sets, size sorting rods, insect sorting activity, and insect instant learning center to enhance our knowledge of insects.
At our school, we firmly believe that all children, no matter what their cognitive levels are, have the capacity to learn. Through this belief, we, as teachers, are constantly finding creative and new learning approaches to help our students be successful.
This year, I am working with 15 amazing four-year-old preschool students attending our full-day preschool program.
These students are either attending preschool for the very first time or transitioning from half-day to full day. The students come from various cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds which lends itself to a diverse classroom environment. The students also have different learning preferences whether it is visual, kinesthetic, or auditory.
Regardless of their backgrounds and their learning preference, all of the students are eager to learn and explore their world around them. My goal is to give them as many tools as possible to become active and engaged learners.
The past year has been fantastic! My students have been so excited receiving items that we have had funded through DonorsChoose. I love seeing the excitement on their faces as they explore new materials that help enhance our learning program. We are always grateful when a project gets funded!
My Project
While we cannot say with confidence we will be back in the classroom this spring, I would like to start to prepare for our insect unit. This project will help supplement materials I already have in the classroom for the students to use.
For students still learning remotely or in person, these insect supplemental materials will help enhance their learning experience.
I am asking for ladybug and butterfly habitats so students are able to observe these insects growing from larva to egg. While we are hopefully in person for this experience, I will be able to share the life cycle experience with them remotely. I am also asking for Play Doh to supplement their supply at home. If in the classroom, each student will need their own Play Doh as we will not be able to share materials. The other activities I am asking for are activities that can be easily cleaned in between student use (the plastic life cycle figurines, translucent bugs and insect sorters) or can be modified so I can have the students share in the experience remotely (size sorter and learning centers). All of the activities were picked in order to enhance the students' knowledge of insects and their learning experience.
