Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students just turned three years old. I am piloting a three-year-old half-day program in an inner-city low-income school.
The children are excited and ready to learn.
Most of the students I serve are English language learners and will be in a bilingual program.
The mission of this program is to teach children English and sustain their Spanish speaking skills. By starting early, this will give them a head start on their educational journey. This will enable them to have many opportunities in their futures, but also facilitate educational success.
My Project
My three year olds this year are fascinated with the weather and the seasons. This is especially true because where we are, every day seems to be a different season! As part of their learning curriculum, they need to learn how to identify characteristics of weather.
I would like for them not only to identify weather but to be able to describe and apply their understanding into their daily lives.
The science vocabulary they will learn with the seasons and weather theme box, game, and storytelling kit will be academic vocabulary that will enrich their understanding in the future.
For early learners and second language learners having a variety of materials to bring this vocabulary to life is imperative!
