My Students

Hello, I work and teach in an Exceptional Child Services (ECS) classroom comprised of students who have severe to profound disability. The class is a self-contained alternate assessment classroom for children with severe to profound disabilities. All students this year are in grades 6 and 8. There are two eighth graders and six sixth graders. There is one student with autism, three students that are multi-handicapped and four students that are developmentally delayed. All students in the class have a moderate to severe learning disability. Some of the students in my class are non-verbal.

The main curriculum utilized in the class in the Unique Learning Curriculum.

However, all the students benefit from learning life-skills, tasks that will support them once they graduate and move on to secondary education. I am starting a Donor's choose account to help me purchase things that are not available in my school to support life skill learning.

My Project

Please help me with funding for preferential seating for my special needs classroom. My classroom is comprised of eight severe to profound special education students, four of whom are non-verbal and have multiple disabilities. I am requesting multiple items that will enhance my classroom for these students and make their school day more engaging.

The first item I am requesting is a large bean bag chair that can fit multiple students.

I have two students in a wheelchair and I do not have preferential seating in the classroom that will help keep them comfortable. There are two other classrooms in the school that have over-sized bean bag chairs & when we visit, my students rush over to sit on it & don't want to leave. I would like to get one for my room so the students can enjoy it anytime. I currently only have one small bean bag chair and my students argue about who gets to sit in it so that is why I am also requesting a saucer chair for students who would prefer another seating option when they have free time.

Other items I am seeking is a toy storage bin. I currently have a large assortment of toys for the students, however, we do not have any storage & the classroom looks disorganized. Toy storage would be great & I can create a free time space in the back of the classroom with the bean bag chairs, storage bin & a lamp for extra light. I have a kitchen area in the classroom with a table, microwave & refrigerator. With these items, I am seeking to make a living space area. Finally I'm requesting an interactive toy for the higher level students to enjoy and will challenge, motivate them to learn, thanks in advance for looking!
