Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a title 1 school in Pittsburg, CA, and I am continually asking the students to bring in pictures from home so that we can make a connection from home to school. My students rarely bring pictures in and I just could not understand this. One day, I ask my students why they did not bring any pictures in, and they simply said “We don't have any”. It never accrued to me that they may not have pictures. What I would like to do is build a bridge between school and home by taking pictures through out the year and creating a scrapbook. At the end of every month I would like to have the students pick out a couple of pictures and make a page. Part of this project would be that the students will have to write their own captions. We will also include writing samples from the beginning to the end of the year. At the end of the year they will be able to take the book home and share their memories with their families. This will help to create positive school memories and help the parents share in these memories.
This is a three part proposal. This part of the proposal is for the paper the scrap booking part. I included some of the essentials such as stencils and glue that won't wrinkle our papers. I also added some sparkles and flares so that they can really feel like this book is theirs. It is always important to me that students are able to show their personalities in their art work. We will also be using some paper cut out from school as well as student created art.
