My Students

I service a diverse group of special education students in grades K-2. A majority of my students come from single parent homes below the poverty level. We are a Title I school and more than 56% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Our special education students have various disabilities and are serviced through both a pull-out (resource) and push-in (inclusion) model.

A majority of the students have a specific learning disability in one of the three core academic subjects (reading, written expression, mathematics).

My Project

Our class recently had a DonorChoose.org project funded in which we gained many valuable file folder games. However, our youngest kindergarten students are not ready skill wise for a majority of the games and we are hoping to add to our collection enabling all K-2 children at any skill level to participate.

These file folder game boxes will help to give students with special needs fun, individualized practice on various skills in both reading and mathematics.

The game format and colorful activities are inviting to the primary students. Students can work individually or in small groups to complete activities. The quick activities and games are easy to set up for the teacher or instructional assistant and can even be completed in a small time frame at the end of a lesson.

Many special education students need a constant review of skills and these games will provide a fun way to review skills.
