Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Who remembers going on class field trips while in school? Having the opportunity to leave the classroom and being able to have hands-on learning experiences with their fellow peers. When you are a 4-year-old experiencing school for the first time, it can be very difficult - being away from your Mom and Dad for the whole day in a new place. The first couple of weeks of school can be hard, but before they know it, they are making new friends and experiencing new adventures. As a Pre-Kindergarten teacher, it is such a joy to be a child's first teacher! It's our job to ensure a child's first year in school is a positive, memorable and impactful one!
Working in a Title One Urban School, most of our students have NEVER been out of their own neighborhood.
Living in the poorest precinct on the Westside. The majority of our families do not own a car and must rely on public transportation. 99% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced lunches.
My Project
While visiting Devine Acres Farm, they will learn about all the different types of Christmas trees grown on the farm. They will enjoy a scenic hayride through the 15,000 Christmas trees growing in the fields. They will have the opportunity to feed and learn interesting facts about various farm animals.
They will get to pet and feed the goats, chickens, rabbits, peacocks, horses, and ducks.
They will get to make an old-fashioned Christmas Tree craft to take home as a keepsake.
They will navigate their way through some various mazes and pump water the old-fashioned way at the duck races. They will enjoy various game stations: golf, horseshoes, washers, etc. They will enjoy a picnic lunch at the picnic tables under the covered pavilion.
