My students are 4 and 5 years old with special needs, who love to come to school to explore everything that is offered to them. Our school makes the students feel like they are at home. Each teacher is extremely passionate and is determined to "reach all and teach all." We try to expose the students to many things they may not get to see or get to do in their home life. The majority of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
My school is located in the heart of a low-socioeconomic neighborhood.
Our class currently shares our playground with 9 other classes. We have a great area for tricycles and scooters to be used, but unfortunately, our tricycles are showing the wear and tear from many years of usage. One of our “handy” teachers has done a great job trying to repair them, but with so many students using the tricycles every day, the tricycles need to be retired! Having playground balls as another choice will also give our kiddos another play option, teaching them turn taking as well as enhance their gross motor skills.
The bike path is the most popular area of our playground and our students learn how to wait patiently for their turn, share the tricycles with others, and follow the “rules of the road”, all while having fun!
These tricycles will help stimulate and connect both sides of the brain to increase brain function and attention. Most of our students do not have the opportunity to ride bicycles at home, and some struggle with balance, coordination and core strength. Studies show the positive effects of physical activity on the health, motor development, and academic performance of young children.
Please help us better support the developmental needs of our young students by getting them playground balls and tricycles to keep them moving, learning and having fun!!!
