This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from low socio-economic homes. We are a Title I school located in the inner-city of Mobile and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some children come to school without proper clothing for the weather, worn or missing socks, shoes that are too small or worn. The impact of a downward economy has affected so many of our families. Our parents struggle to send many of the basic supplies and there are many things we as teachers provide from personal resources.
Students with the greatest need for readiness skills are selected first for our Pre K program.
Children who are chosen for this opportunity have a better chance for success in school.
Our tiny learners are so excited, eager to learn and love to come to school every day.
My Project
We need new computer mice and headphones for our little ones to use while working on the computers and iPad. Our preschoolers work for 15 minutes per day, per student on the computer/iPad learning Literacy, Math and Science.
Preschoolers are particularly rough on headphones and computer mice as they are learning how to use them appropriately.
We really work hard to train them but many of them have had no experience with technology and we really go through them. We would like to try wireless computer mice to train them on.
Students are sometimes prompted while working at the computer to practice writing targeted letters and/or numbers. We also need a light to use for students who work at the computer during rest time when lights are out.
