My students need 21 books such as "Life Cycles" and "Fantastic Frogs", and exploratory materials such as Animals from Across the Land to learn about animals during our Animals Science Research Project unit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Weren't animals just fascinating when you were a child? No matter what language my students speak, or what the color of their skin is, they all have a common love of animals. Will you help us use our love of animals to get ready for Kindergarten?
My students are, simply put, amazing.
They have so much energy and enthusiasm for learning, exploring and loving. I have 23 four and five year olds, and we have really grown into one big, diverse family.
My students attend a small, urban school in Maryland. While we have a lot of love and support for one another, our school is very old with minimal resources. Yet my students, who speak multiple languages and have even more diverse countries of origin, never let any obstacles get in the way of their learning! They are so excited and happy to be in school that they make the most of everything.
I absolutely love my students, and it is so rewarding to hear "I love school" throughout the day. I want to ensure that my students' appreciation for education never wanes.
My Project
This spring, we will be completing a research project where each student will choose an animal and write a "book" about it. It will be a culminating end of the year activity that will allow us to show off how smart we have become!
As a class, we will use materials like books, figurines and charts to learn the basics of animals. Then, each student will get to use one book to research their animal. Over several weeks, the students will work on their early writing skills to produce their very own research book, focusing on what the animals look like, what they eat, where they live, how they move, etc. At the end of this unit, the students will present their books to their families and fellow classmates.
Will you help us get these materials so we can become real researchers?
Even at four and five years old, my students have learned so much.
They are writing sentences and reading simple books. We are even working on counting to 100! This project will help my students compile everything they have learned into their own book in a fun and engaging way that every student, no matter what their ability level is, will be able to do and enjoy. I cannot wait for them to read their research books!
