Help me give my students interactive and intriguing toys that will enhance their daily success in a play based model classroom. Playtime is a great opportunity to allow students to represent what they are learning.
My students are amazing hard workers who thrive on unique learning experiences. They attend a self-contained special education program in a public elementary school. They are ages 3 to 5. My students have a variety of disabilities including developmental delays, speech impairments, physical disabilities, medical disabilities and Autism. Their commitment to overcoming obstacles provides me with an immense amount of personal and professional satisfaction.

My students are the epitome to this quote. They work so hard to complete simple tasks and never give up. They are persistent and overcome so many obstacles. Learning is not a one size fits all. As an educator, it is my responsibility to provide an engaging, stimulating, and safe environment for all students to learn and grow to the best of their abilities.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to explore their curiosity, while making connections to the real world. This opportunity will help prepare them to be successful citizens of their future community. Our society is so driven on technology, and these toys will help build strengths in cognition, social emotional, and life skills.
I believe if my students have a hands on learning experience that consists of intentional and tangible play, it will help create a more positive approach to their learning in the future.
The Mr. Potato Head, alphabet letters, and dice will all be used while working on tasks that incorporate sequencing events. Students will make real world connections to their body parts and their language. The miniature gas pump and car will allow my class the opportunity to follow directions and safety skills, while completing steps in pumping gas or emulate driving a car. The computer will help with literacy skills and fine motor skills, by identifying letters as they are typing. The interactive alphabet mat will increase phonemic awareness skills and build vocabulary. This tool will be a great addition to our classroom, because after using it as a whole group, I believe my students would be able to complete simple learning tasks through visual and verbal cues provided by the toy with limited teacher prompting. These interactive technology toys are an excellent resource for my classroom because they provide a unique way of learning that meets my students sensory needs, while expanding their educational growth.
