This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is a diverse inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.
My students are very interested in learning about letters, math social studies, engineering and science, and enjoy exploring with technology.
They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite the challenges they face they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.
My Project
Our students need the opportunity to explore and utilize technology so they will become confident and fluent in Reading, Math, and Computer skills.
Young learners need daily opportunities to explore and utilize technology to prepare them for 21st Century learning skills.
Currently, we do not have a computer for the children to use. Exposing them to a laptop computer will allow them to learn basic keyboard and mouse skills. This will help them prepare for future learning.
The interactive whiteboard will be used with our new curriculum which provides access to interactive stories and activities. This will enable the students to see what is being taught and make it easier to see and hear the curriculum materials I am hoping to incorporate into our day. It will be used for both large group and small group learning.
