I teach Pre-K students (4-5 year olds) in a high poverty school in which over 80% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. A large percentage of the school population is Hispanic. Many are from single parent homes or are being raised by grandparents. Regardless of the challenges many of my students face, it is not only my job, but it is also my mission to provide them with as many opportunities to succeed as possible. They are eager to learn and the world is at their feet. I want to allow them the best start with a strong foundation to grow into a life long learner and a happy, healthy, positive citizen.
Pre-K is the time to build a strong foundation of life long learning. A listening center, which allows for several students to listen to books/educational songs, is another great way to expose these littles to literature, language and much more.
By donating to this project, you will be making a major impact on my students at the most critical time in their educational career.
As a part of the "Library Center," this will expose students even more to language and hopefully, build their interest in reading/books, and learning in general. A Listening Center would provide growth and exposure to ALL students in my class~ regardless of the level at which they are performing.
