Our Title 1 school services Pre-K through 1st grade. We have a diverse group of experiential learners that like to try out new and different ways to accomplish a task. Our focus in Pre-K is to develop the whole child and who they can become.
Good books provide the foundation for the learning that occurs in our room.
I look to provide my students with as many opportunities as I can to experience and discover the world in a safe, engaging environment.
Their inventiveness lends itself to fantastic creations and academic conversation that can only be attributed to their love of learning.
My Project
Research shows students that have ready access to written materials are more likely engage in reading and writing. Dr. Suess said it best, "The more you read the more you'll know. The more you learn the more you'll grow."
Reading to students daily not only improves listening skills and vocabulary but also increases the likelihood of being a good reader.
Having engaging reading materials readily available allows to students to read, retell, and interact with stories read in the classroom.
Books like Plant the Tiny Seed are a jumping off point for students to integrate what they learn in a book to what is possible outside the classroom doors. And a book like When Sophie's Feelings Are Really, Really Hurt helps students find words to verbalize what they are feeling to their friends.
The books I am requesting hold so much more than print on the page, they hold promise for students to learn and become all they can be in our world.
