Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a school family. They take pride in coming to school and have created a very tight knit classroom community. They are filled with love and an eagerness to learn.
Students are between the ages of three and five years old.
Our classroom family includes students with disabilities of varying ranges. The backgrounds of my students are very diverse. About one third of my students have recently relocated from different countries, adding unique and cultural depth to our Pre-K community. Our school is a Title I school in an area recently impacted by hurricane Irma.
My Project
If this project is funded, it will dramatically change my students' Dramatic Play Center. The pretend kitchen items will provide opportunity for realistic child-centered learning. Sorting barrels of vegetables and the pretend cash register tie in math concepts with the social emotion emphasis in the Head Start classrooms. Also, exposing them to new vocabulary and variety. Children learn concepts across subject areas by role playing and dramatic play. Students feel empowered and belonging when the are able to express experiences through role play. Problem solving and communication skills skyrocket during child-driven play. Donating these items will make my students learning environment more inviting and more like home.
