Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students just turned three years old. I am piloting a three-year-old half-day program in an inner-city low-income school.
The children are excited and ready to learn.
Most of the students I serve are English Language Learners and will be in a bilingual program.
The mission of this program is to teach children English and sustain their Spanish speaking skills. Starting early will give them a head start on their educational journey. This will enable them to have many opportunities in their futures, but also facilitate educational success.
My Project
My students need books on social emotional learning, tools to regulate emotions, and feelings dolls in order to learn how to regulate their emotions.
In order for my students to be able to thrive academically, they need to learn how to manage, regulate, and describe their emotions in a positive way.
Many students come to school not knowing about feelings or how to manage them. Students who come from stressful home situations especially need learn that any feeling is valid and can be managed in a variety of ways.
Even students who may seem to manage their emotions can learn new ways for themselves or others.
