Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a wonderful group of 3rd graders in an inner-city school where 100% of students receive free school lunch. Most of my students come from a family background where they lack academic and financial support to enrich their academic studies. The majority of these students come from families where parents are too busy working and lack the language or education to help them with their schoolwork. Therefore, the role of the teacher is extremely vital to their learning.
Despite these setbacks, my students are motivated learners who rely heavily on teachers and school support to help them become successful in life.
Our school motto is to be respectful, responsible, and scholarly. In order to help them achieve these goals, I must provide them with the best classroom environment, full of the proper supplies and guidance.
My Project
Technology is all around us and yet, we don't have enough in my classroom. My 28 students constantly have to share and wait their turn to use the 6 Chromebooks we currently have in my room. That simply is not enough! Adding a couple more Chromebooks will be a great resource to help my students access math online. There is a wealth of math resources online which my students can access to help them enjoy and improve in math. One good example is the Kahn Academy math program online. Through Khan Academy, my students are able to work through levels and advance in their mathematical skills. The program also provides videos for students to practice a math skill they are struggling with. This program has been a wonderful asset for them to practice the math concepts learned throughout this school year.
This accessibility to technology will be a valuable help to all my students!
