My students have an energy and passion for being involved in their community. Most of them participate in more than one organization before or after school--BPA, FFA, churches, Boy Scouts, Robotics and including our many sports teams. My music students interact with all different types of students and create positive learning climates. They are the leaders at our school.
The disciplines that they learn in music class translate to all fields.
When they don't do a certain music section correctly, they try and try again until they get it right. One of my flutist said, "Compared to 5 measures of 32nd notes in Pachabel's Canon, Life is easy!" She practiced hard until she was able to play the 5 measures of 32nd notes. I was so proud of her! The work ethic musical excellence promotes does indeed translate to all fields.
My Project
Students have access to 5 cinder-block rooms to practice their instruments. The rooms need acoustic panels because the sound levels and frequencies in the small cinder-block room hurt the students' ears, making it hard to practice alone or with others. Getting a stand, tuner, and metronome would also help their practicing to be more productive.
Help me give the students 1 safe and productive practice room.
This will help them to be able to work on their own parts and on their ensembles. High School students prepare solos, duets, trios, quartets, and even larger groups for our High School State Music Festival.
