My Students

The students at my school are exceptional. The things they learn are beyond their years, learning college-level concepts in their early years of high school. No, this is not a regular AP classroom, this is just my classroom filled with my students.

In my classroom, students do not strive for perfection, they strive for permanence—I teach with the philosophy that "practice makes permanence." Students engage in practice problems until they cannot get a concept, step, etc., incorrect.

To do this, we engage in full-class discussions on the process of completing problems. Their efforts do not go unrewarded and they have opportunities to correct their mistakes until they can't get the problems wrong. They tirelessly strive for excellence and a desire to practice the process.

My Project

The Surface Pro X includes whiteboard software and a convenient touchscreen that allows for the drawing of chemical structures, practicing Stoichiometry and molar masses, and calculating the speed of a rock in free-fall.

My teaching strategy of "practice makes permanence" can go much further with functioning technology by allowing all kids, both at home and in the classroom, to see problems and engage in the content that we are learning about.

With our school being in a hybrid learning environment, and with the inevitability of COVID-19, we have students learning both at home and at school. It is difficult for any teacher to teach to students simultaneously but even tougher for those without efficient technology.
