This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Describing the athletes in one word - 'EXTRAORDINARY'
In spite of the low social, economic communities, athletes live in they are very dedicated when it comes to track and field.
They have spent countless hours practicing and preparing for track meets during and out of season. The teams understand that it takes hard work and dedication to be competitive in track and field. For three consecutive years, we have won or placed second in our district. Our boys were runner-ups at the state this year.
All students receive free meals and textbooks, but the student-athletes do not allow their background to be a hindrance.
My Project
Researchers and coaches say running hurdles are one of the most challenging events in track and field. Runners need to train for maximum speed, and they also need to practice jumping high enough to clear hurdles without losing momentum or balance. Running hurdles takes speed, proper footwork, and flexibility.
The hurdles are needed to get plenty of practice.
The athletes will learn how to make positive strides every time they practice. Clearing hurdles requires hours of training. Young runners attempting to jump over hurdles with poor technique can suffer serious injuries. So, having some hurdles rather than tires will help the athletes learn the proper techniques to perform better at track meets and possibly get an athletic scholarship.
