This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is part of an inner-city school district. The students are predominantly African-American, and most come from low-income situations. All of the kids at our school receive free breakfast and lunch daily.
Even though our budget is small, the kids in my class love to learn and make the best out of what they are given.
This is my second year teaching this group; I enjoyed working with them so much, I was "promoted" with them! They have so much heart, are very kind, and soak up anything I can present to them. They also enjoy a healthy competition.
My Project
My students will use the dry erase pockets to practice math skills. We will be able to place various math mats such as number lines, graphs, and other math organizers into the pockets. We will use dry erase markers to fill in these blank resources to practice any math skill.
We use these dry erase supplies every day.
The kids turn learning into games by competing to see who can get the correct answer first. They can easily hold up their pockets to show their answer. In this way, I can easily and quickly see who "gets it" and who needs extra help. We also use peer tutoring to make sure everyone can succeed. Your donations will get us supplies to continue learning "new math" concepts.
