This is my first year at Wilton School, a rural school in Granville Co. North Carolina. The class will be fairly large with approximately 22 children. Additionally, I have changed grade levels, but I am up to the challenge of first grade. I have many kindergarten activities and manipulatives that can be used in first grade as well. But there are no take home readers for the children to use for homework reading. The children will need to practice reading skills each night as a part of their homework. To ensure this will happen I would like a classroom library of take home books that the children may check out. Sun Sprouts books provide class sets of leveled books. A first grade library should consist of a variety of levels of these books. Berry, Kiwi, Mint, Lime and Cucumber will address reading levels from late kindergarten (emergent) to mid first grade (fluent). My class will get daily use of these books, as will future classes. The variety of levels will address the reading needs of most of the children. Study after study confirms that children who practice reading become better reader. It is my hope that with these books, the students will practice and master the reading skills that will make them successful in life. Thank you for considering helping the children have a take home library.
