Practice Makes Perfect! Being Resourceful with Reusable Materials
My students need dry erase markers, a laminator, and laminating pouches to create reusable reading and writing practice activities. My students also need pencils for everyday use in reading and math.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently work with students in a poverty-stricken area in Memphis. My students are eager to learn to improve the outlook of their future. They are hard working and are willing to do whatever it takes academically to make themselves and their peers successful.
I believe that the best way to learn is to be engaged in reading and writing every day.
With that said, I am learning more about these students every day, making me want to help them have the very best academic experience possible.
My Project
The students I serve are emerging readers who have fallen behind their peers on grade level reading. The activities I use for students are best created in reusable form since students will likely complete the activity multiple times until they master the skill. With the laminating supplies, I will be able to create reusable, environmentally-friendly activities within my lessons. The dry erase markers will allow students to quickly complete the activity and move on to the next. Finally, the pencils will be used for other reading and math activities that students need on a daily basis.
Many of my students do not have these basic school supplies that all students need for basic everyday learning activities.
I want to ensure their success by providing those resources they need to be successful this school year.
