As young learners, my first grade students need many opportunities to move around throughout the day. We achieve the kinesthetic movement necessary for young children by changing our location within the classroom during whole group instruction. My students also receive independent learning opportunities through reading and math stations and small group instruction where students' academic needs are met at their specific point of need. Technology is included in lessons whenever possible.

I strive to create learning experiences where students receive meaningful learning opportunities as individuals, in small groups and as a class.
Over half of the students in my school come from low-income families. One-third of the students in my class are English Language Learners who are working to learn the English language while also learning the curriculum being taught. Many of my students have a variety of factors, both in and out of school, that challenge their education. My goal is to help students overcome any hurdles they may face throughout the year, by ensuring they feel safe and cared for and are given all of the tools necessary to grow both academically and emotionally.
My Project
The materials requested by this project will provide my first grade students with multiple opportunities to practice the English Language Arts standards they are learning in class. Over a four week instructional unit, we focus on eight to ten reading and writing standards that students should mater by the end of first grade. In order to guide instruction, I must check in with my students often to see what concepts they have learned and what concepts I need to continue to teach.
The Teachers Pay Teachers materials requested by this project will enable my students to practice the skills necessary to master academic standards while also informing me which students need to be pushed further academically and which students need to be retaught specific standards.
Having easily accessible materials to guide academic instruction increases the likelihood of student success on reading and writing assessments.
